RULES OF THE CARLISLE ANGLING ASSOCIATION
5. The Committee shall have power
to fix the price of tickets and the entrance fee from time to time and the refusal to grant
tickets.
6. A resident member or ticket
holder must have a permanent residence within five miles of the City of Carlisle, but discretionary power
will be left to the Committee.
8. Members or ticket holders must
at all times produce their ticket on request to any other member or ticket holder who produces his or her
ticket.
9. No member or ticket holder may
cut any trees or bushes on the river banks unless so authorised by the Committee.
10. No member or ticket holder shall use a boat without the special sanction of the
Committee.
11. Members and ticket holders
must report all instances of illegal fishing and all complaints must be in writing and signed.
13. Fishing with maggots between the 15th March and 15th June is not allowed. The use
of keep nets, ground baiting and swim feeding are not allowed during the period when it is lawful to fish for
Salmon with rod and line, except for the City Water, where it will be allowed until the 14th
March.

Spinning for migratory trout will not be allowed until after the 30th April. No spinning is allowed for brown
trout or coarse fish. (b) Worm fishing will not be
permitted on the Association water for coarse fish and salmon respectively from 15th October, until the 1st
May, excepting juveniles, who will be permitted to use the worm for coarse fish.
15. The use of gaffs is prohibited
in the Association waters.
16. All trout caught in the waters
of the Association; of a size less than nine inches, to be returned to the water with as little injury as
possible. No member or ticket holder of the Association shall sell or offer for sale any Brown Trout, Sea
Trout or Salmon, that have been caught on the Association water.
20. The Committee shall have power
to cancel or withdraw, on such terms as they determine, the tickets of any member or ticket holder whom they
decide to be guilty of any breach of any of these Rules or any regulations made by the Committee or for
illegal fishing or any other offence against the fishery laws, or if for any other reason they consider it
expedient to do so in the interests of the Association. Provided always that before the Committee come to a
decision under this rule the member (or members) alleged to have so offended shall have the right to attend
before the Committee.
21. In case any matter shall arise not provided for by these Rules, the same shall be
referred to and settled by the Committee.
22. Within a
period of fourteen days after the closing date of the salmon fishing season, it be compulsory for each member
to render to the Secretary the prescribed return giving the number of salmon caught, Nil returns must be
made.
23. Anglers will not be allowed to monopolise any part of the water and will move a
pace after not more than three casts. They will keep a reasonable distance from any angler in front and will not
commence to fish less than 50 yards in front of any other angler, unless they first have permission to do so.
Failure to observe the simple courtesies of angling will involve the offenders in disciplinary action by the
Committee.
24. Fishing with solid lead baits
or solid alloy baits is forbidden in the Association waters.
25. No person engaged in operating
haaf nets, draft nets, or coops will be allowed to fish in the Association waters.
26. Dogs must be kept strictly under control.
27. Fishing for migratory fish on
the River Caldew will be by Fly only
28. No member or ticket holder of
the Association shall use the Association waters for commercial gain i.e. Tutoring or Guiding without prior
consent of the Committee.
