Report 2006
The
2006 season is half way through yet for some members it has not
yet started.
The Spring Salmon run appeared to be improving further with some
good reports in the paper from upstream and hopefully one day we
will be able to take one. As the fish are being caught upstream
of CAA water they must have passed through but with few rods on
the river they will not be caught.
Moving on to Sea Trout, this season has been poor by any standard
and it is now probably too late to improve with the best of the
fishing gone, with the EA not seeming to recognise that the Eden
was once a prolific Sea Trout river.
Moving on to a brighter note with some good catches of Brown Trout
being reported with well known angler Mr Mike McHugh reporting catching
25 Trout on one evenings visit to the river, with all fish returned.
Whilst Mr D McKnight reported taking a Brownie of four and a half
pounds on the dry fly.
This
season has seen the Environment Agency put forward further restrictions
on anglers under the disguise of a Net Limitation Order; based on
conservation grounds, originally requesting a voluntary two fish
bag limit with an aim of achieving a 50% catch return figure.
At a Special meeting on 28Th February 2006 CAA members found that
the E.A,s case was not proved on conservation grounds, whilst most
of the other Salmon rod fisheries have agreed that they could go
along with the proposal and accept a two fish bag limit.
Since that time the EA have moved the goal posts and are now proposing
to bring in byelaws with a two fish limit and all Hen fish to be
returned after the tenth of September.
A Special
meeting is being held, and members will be informed of the date
and location with the Committee hoping for a good attendance on
the night, as this is such an important subject and will affect
all Salmon anglers.
This
season has seen the Association parking being squeezed further with
Tesco now clamping vehicles that have been left for more than one
and a half hours, (so much for the gentleman’s agreement made
with a previous CAA Secretary and the then Tesco manager. The Committee
is at present trying to arrange further parking in this area and
suggest that anglers temporarily use the car park opposite the Auctioneer
on Montgomery Way. Whist the Committee understands that this may
not be suitable to all members the Committee is exploring every
available avenue to arrange alternative permanent parking.
A project,
which is going forward, is fencing parts of the riverbank between
the Motorway Bridge and Rickerby Rocks, with future fencing proposed
below Rickerby Rocks.
The fence will be owned and maintained by CAA. Care should be taken
with the fence and any damage whether natural, vandalism, or cattle
trapped within the boundary of the fence should be reported to the
Committee.
The aim of the fence is to keep livestock away from the banks of
the river in order to prevent further erosion and restore the habitat
on the riverbank.
The Committee would like to remind all members,
ticket holders and visitors that the CAA Bailiffs must be supported
and tickets or cards must be produced when asked for by the Bailiffs
or any other member, there are no exceptions.
See rule 8.
The
Committee would also like to remind members, ticket holders and
visitors that catch returns are due to be sent to the Hon Sec by
the 28Th of October (see rule 22). There has been a considerable
amount of late returns and this will be monitored and may result
in disciplinary action by the Committee with the Committee looking
for an improvement at the end of this season.
If you do not have a catch return please obtain one from one of
the shops or at the very worst make your own, providing name, No.
of fish, weight, where and when caught, and if returned.
This is valuable information and the Committee is looking for your
compliance with this matter.
River
Bank Maintenance
I would like to remind members that maintaining
the river bank is an important part of the club and we ask members
to report any damage, pollution, loss/ finds of tackle to the Committee.
The members are the eyes and ears on the river side without whom
the Association and fishing would suffer.
Mr P Ghorst is at present collating and updating our records and
condition of tools held and would like members holding tools to
contact him on 07900 130263 or the Secretary. Working parties are
still required and if anyone is available please contact the Hon
Sec to be added to the list.
Book
and Map
The book and map are both still on sale and available
from any Committee member.
Change
of address
It
is important that that the clubs data base is kept up to date or
you may miss out on information.
Please inform Hon Sec by phone, letter or Email.
