Chairmans Report
The 2007 season has been with us from the
15th January but as yet the season has not
really got started as many feel that the
16th June is now the start of the Salmon
season. Since the 16th June we have not
had a settled period on the river due to the
high waters brought on by the country
recording some of the highest rainfall on
record for this time of year.
The spring Salmon run did not appear to
be as plentiful as the 2006 seasons, but
hopefully the high waters have given the
summer fish a chance to escape the
estuary.
The Sea Trout did appear to be showing a
slight improvement on previous seasons
before the high water started, which will
have given them the chance to migrate
upstream.
The Brown Trout season had not really got
under way with the high coloured water
affecting fishing and fly life, hopefully the
weather will settle and we can get down to
some serious fishing.
The EA have now published their
proposed byelaws which include a catch
limit for anglers of two Salmon and two
Sea Trout per day with all hen Sea Trout
and Salmon fish to be released to the river
after the 9th September.
At a special meeting on the 26th June 2007
a decision was taken by the members to
object to the imposition of the byelaws on
the grounds that there is no case proved
by the EA for further conservation
measures, as the Salmon stocks are shown
to be above management targets in recent
years.
We are asking members and ticket
holders to read the enclosed document
and object to the EA proposals in either
your own words or by signing and using
the enclosed objection.
The Association would like to thank all
members that have carried out work and
assisted in the planting of trees in the
fenced off area.
The fence has now been up since the end
of April and a vast improvement can be
seen in the bank side vegetation and insect
life with three different species of dragon
flies being seen.
We ask all anglers to treat the fence with
respect and be aware of uneven ground
within the fenced off area.
The Association is still in negotiations for
parking at the top of Jonnies Lonning and
Willow Holme adjacent to the NB and we
are hopeful for a successful outcome in the
near future.
The Committee would like to remind all
members, ticket holders and visitors that
the CAA Bailiffs must be supported and
tickets or cards must be produced when
asked for by the Bailiffs or any other
member, there are no exceptions.
See rule 8.
The Committee would also like to remind
members, ticket holders and visitors that
catch returns are due to be sent to the
Hon Sec by the 28th October (see rule 22).
There has been a considerable amount of
late returns and this will be monitored and
may result in disciplinary action by the
Committee. The Committee was looking
for an improvement at the end of the 2006
season which did not appear.
If you do not have a catch return please
obtain one from one of the ticket
distributors, or at the very worst make
your own, providing your name, No. of
fish, weight, where and when caught, and
if returned.
This is valuable information and the
Committee is looking for your compliance
with this matter, and rule 22 will be
enforced for the 2007 season.
Finishing on a brighter note the end of
season Dinner and Dance is being held at
the Shepherds Inn again on the
20th October. Tickets will be available
from:
Mr J McNabb on 01228 536408
Mr E Glaister on 01228 531135
Mr P Ghorst on 07900130263

River Bank Maintenance
I would like to remind members that
maintaining the river bank is an important
part of the club and we ask members to
report any damage, pollution, loss/ finds
of tackle to the Committee.
The members are the eyes and ears on the
river side without whom the Association
and fishing would suffer.
Working parties are being organised for
August with volunteers still required and
if anyone is available please contact the
Hon Sec with your availability.
Book and Map
The book and map are both still on sale
and available from any Committee
member.
Change of address
It is important that that the clubs data base
is kept up to date or you may miss out on
