Each year Carlisle Angling Association organise a free, fun and informative day in Rickerby Park on the banks of the River Eden in Carlisle for youngsters up to 16 years of age who may be interested in fishing.

Fishing instruction

This is a great day out for any youngster who wants to have a go at fishing, they are given the opportunity to try both fly fishing and bait fishing with qualified instructors on hand throughout the day to help them improve their fishing and casting skills.

Youngsters get the chance to learn about safety when they are near water, they learn about the river plants and invertebrates (insects that live in the river),  and the fish and wild life of the River Eden with experts from the Eden Rivers Trust and Borderlines.

Fly Tying

There are free competitions for all to enter such as fly and bait casting, tying the best fly, identifying the invertebrates and much more culminating in a quiz at the end of the day and the presentation of some superb prizes kindly donated by the club and local tackle shops.

Drinks and snacks are provided for those taking part on the day.

The Date for the 2012 Junior day has now been fixed - It is to be held in Rickerby Park on Saturday 28th July
