Carlisle Angling Association had it’s birth at a meeting held in the Royal Hotel on Friday, 17th December 1852; when it was resolved “That an Association be formed for the better protection of the River Eden and it’s tributaries with a view to the preservation and increase of the fish therein and for the improvement of angling in the District.” Those attending the meeting were men of some means, owners of small businesses, professional men and shopkeepers. In those days the working men were too poor to pursue angling as a sport.

Carlisle Angling Association have always had an underlying philosophy regarding the affordability of salmon angling on waters under their control, and as such still offer extremely cheap salmon fishing on a seasonal basis.

This is ‘ salmon angling for the people’ approach; an approach shared with Carlisle City Council, our oldest and closest partner.

The Association now provides angling for residents living within a five mile radius of Carlisle City Centre. Anglers outside the five mile limit are welcomed and permits are available for game and coarse angling on a daily, weekly, and seasonal basis.

We control approximately 7 miles of mainly double bank fishing on the River Eden, with 27 named pools providing fishing for Salmon, Sea Trout, Brown Trout and Coarse fish.
